UM Land Holdings Bhd and HELP International Bhd will collectively invest about RM300 million to build a HELP campus in Johor that can accommodate up to 10,000 students.
The campus, which will be HELP's fourth in the country, will be built on a 14.2ha in Seri Alam township. The development will involve four phases, with full completion being targeted by 2016.
The first phase will cost around RM100 million, with UM Land and HELP contributing RM50 million each. It is expected to kick off next year once all necessary approvals are in place.
UM Land, through subsidiary Seri Alam Properties Sdn Bhd, and HELP sealed the pact on Tuesday.
Under the deal, Seri Alam will undertake the construction. Once completed, HELP will lease the campus with an option to buy it outright.
"We hope to operate the first phase by 2013," said said HELP president Datuk Dr Paul Chan Tuck Hoong at a partnership signing agreement in Kuala Lumpur.
The campus will offer vocational and technology driven courses such as tourism and hospitality, culinary entrepreneurship, food science technology, resort management and multimedia and animation.
Chan said HELP was in talks with various parties to collaborate in knowledge and technology transfers, joint partnership of programmes, co-development of customised curriculums, innovation in research and development and industrial and service internship.
The potential partners included government-linked companies and Australian TAFE Colleges as well as Chinese and Indian vocational colleges and Singapore polytechnics.
